Coaches A E James of Sussex (1969–90), John Shepherd, the Kent and West Indies all-rounder (1991–97) and Jamie Hall of Sussex (1998) have been followed in their excellent work by Namibian Test players Deon Kotze, Danie Keulder and J-B Burger in recent years. The master-in-charge of cricket is former Kent CCC batsman Matt Banes and the current cricket professional (and overall Sports Co-ordinator) is former captain of Zimbabwe, Andy Waller.
Fixtures are played against local Sussex schools as well as King's Canterbury and Tonbridge from Kent and Cranleigh and St John's Leatherhead from Surrey. Nine school sides play each week. The 1st Xl have already played opposition from New Zealand, emerging victorious against Christ's College who had been undefeated following games against a number of schools including Eton, Harrow, Wellington and Cranleigh. In June the 1st Xl will host Melbourne Grammar School again following a good fixture in 2007 and a development side will then go to Ampleforth at the start of the summer holidays for a festival with the hosts, Dulwich College and Taunton School. The 1st Xl are also playing Sussex Martlets on 30 April at Arundel Castle.
