Future Developments

The strategic plan assumes the completion of the Birley Centre over the course of the plan period, and therefore the effective use of the corner cottage site, which in turn provides the opportunity to develop space in the centre of the school. Other major developments are planned to accommodate the demands of a bigger school and the upgrading of existing facilities.

Academic Teaching Block

As a school of 600 plus the provision of a new academic teaching block will guarantee all departments their own territorial integrity. The most suitable location for this will be on the freed up space to the rear of Big School. Careful planning would also advance drama provision, build curricular links between English and drama, provide a link with the Dell Theatre, and significantly improve Big School as a venue.

Dining hall and social space

The dining hall needs to be extended and improved to allow for increased pupil and staff numbers and for the very high level of social dining. This development would also provide enhanced social space so that pupils from different houses can spend civilised time together – a buttery, tuck shop or café facility is envisaged.

Sports centre

The demands of a bigger school and a continually evolving sports programme means that we must also upgrade our indoor as well as our outdoor sports facilities. An indoor sports centre and the re-surfacing of existing all weather outdoor facilities are and will continue to be required.

These three projects will represent a significant capital spend and with resources allocated to the completion of the Birley Centre, they can only be achieved in the medium term with the continued generous support of our friends and benefactors.
