7th Duke of Devonshire Devonshire Society in Headmaster's garden with Duke of Devonshire 2006

The Devonshire Society

The Devonshire Society is the legacy club of Eastbourne College.  A legacy to the College is one of the most important and enduring gifts you can make and because of the tax advantages will be beneficial to you and your estate planning.

A lasting gift

Generations of Eastbournians will benefit from the generosity of the Devonshire Society. Since the foundation of the Society in August 2002, over one hundred people have made Eastbourne College a beneficiary of their Will, and in so doing have become members of the Society. Click here to see a list of members.

To date the members have provided a significant sum in pledged legacies, and legacies received total £221,500.

In appreciation, all members are invited to a social gathering each year as guests of the Headmaster.

How do I join the Devonshire Society?

Please contact the Foundation and Development office to request a pledge form.   All legacies of whatever size will benefit the College and will:

  • provide bursaries and scholarships
  • ensure that future generations continue to benefit from the best possible educational facilities

If a member wishes the legacy to remain anonymous this of course will be respected. Equally, naming opportunities are available:

  • the Scoresby-Jackson bequest provides a Science Scholarship each year
  • the Rule bequest provided the Rule Centre for
    Mathematics and Information Technology

The advantages of giving this way are that Eastbourne College is a registered charity therefore

  • your legacy will be free of inheritance tax
  • gifts of shares or property will be exempt from Capital Gains Tax
